The People's Action Party (PAP) has won all but two parliamentary seats - Hougang and Potong Pasir - in the 1997 General Election.

For practically unmoderated reactions of GE 1997, you can always turn to the soc.culture.singapore newsgroup. There is also soc.culture.singapore.moderated for less chaotic discussions. You would not have believed that somebody has actually drawn up a set of guidelines for postings on the newsgroup.

As far as the Singapore Broadcasting Authority ("SBA") is concerned, I understand that I am already deemed to be registered by virtue of the fact that I subscribe to one of the ISPs here in Singapore. However, they can require that I register these GE pages any time they want to. I will keep you posted if they do.

Interestingly, they have issued a directive to those political organisations registered with it not to put up any political stuff on their web-pages and enquiries have failed to determine which authority is responsible, SBA or the Election Returning Officer. Hmmmm....
